Step Up October 19, 2006

Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a badass dude who wants to escape his Baltimore ‘hood. Nora (Jenna Dewan) is a ballet dancer from the preppy Maryland School of the Arts. She’s got everything in the worldย  except a dance partner for her senior showcase. When Tyler’s assigned to do community service at the school, sparks fly between them.”ย

I got the chance to watch this movie because I WATCHED IT WITH MY FRIENDS ๐Ÿ˜€ .ย  Yeah, yeah Channing Tatum (Tyler Gage) is H-O-T.. not just hot, but sizzling HOT! (okay, enough already. ha-ha-ha).ย  All of the characters here are so good in dancing. *applause* I thought this movie was kind of boring even though I’m not sure of the reason. I liked the movie because (and again) it has a message (is it same as learnings and realizations? haha. joke). The message is that we should reach for our dream/s even though we experience bumpy roads along our way. Bumpy roads leads to success, and success leads to…SUCCESS! congratulations, you’ve reached your destination!

The movie is not ALL about dancing. And this is another reason why I like it.

YouTube

Sounds familiar? Yes, of course! Why shouldn’t it? If you don’t know this, LEAVE! wait! just kidding! ๐Ÿ™‚ For people who doesn’t know this… YouTube is a free online video streaming service that allows users to view and share videos that have been uploaded by their members.

Almost all of my friends, well, not JUST my friends, but almost ALL people, whether they would be from different places on this earth, knows about this. I am really fund of this online video streaming because hey, it’s free! what could get better than that?! ๐Ÿ˜€ย  This is like the new “television”. It features almost all of the known shows showed in the usual television. You could search for shows or episodes that you want to watch with ease.

When I’m not doing anything, I look for funny clips. And yes, I always find some! (ha-ha-ha) It’s a very good stress reliever, too.

Let’s have a big round of applause for YouTube for giving us the opportunity to watch what epsiodes, movies or shows we have missed.ย  Cheers to youtube!

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Filed under: Wonders of the World — Rachel @ 11:58 am

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon rises on terraces some 400 feet above the level of the plain. This hanging gardens were built by Nebuchadnezzar about 600 B.C. to console his queen, who missed the mountains, trees and flowers of her native Media. source: www.faculty.fairfield.edu/jmac/rs/7wonders.htm

I wanted to make an entry about The Hanging Gardens of Babylon because as we all know, it’s one of the “7 Wonders of the World”. I really think that it deserves to be here in my media log. ๐Ÿ™‚

As we can see in the pictures that I got, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon is very beautiful based on it’s architectural design. The pictures are really beautiful, what more when we can see it with our own eyes? That is why it’s one of the “7 Wonders of the World”. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon serves as a proof that we, humans are really gifted. Imagine, if we continue to make such maginficent buildings and different kinds of architectures, the whole world would be in awe.

*cheers to history!

Ghost Whisperer October 18, 2006

Filed under: TV series — Rachel @ 12:48 pm

The Ghost Whisperer. This TV series is one of my favorite. The lead character here is Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt). She inherited her “gift” from her grandmother. She has a very loving, caring and understanding husband, Jim Clancy (David Conrad) who knows about her said “gift” and often comforts her when she get scared. Yes, she sometimes gets scared even though she always see the spirits since at an early age of 7(?). This “gift” of hers helps the spirits “cross over” to a better place called Heaven. It always start in a not-sp-good conversation when spirits would like to talk to her but at the end of the day, she is very successful with helping the spirits to cross over.

This is the first TV series I liked after only watching the 1st episode of it. ALL of the episodes has realizations and learnings that you can get after watching each episode. This what makes a good show! You will apply all of the learnings and realizations in your daily lives after seeing each episode. Almost all, well, not almost but, ALL. All of the epsiodes made me cry! (ha-ha-ha. Believe it, or not! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). This TV series is very wonderful that you can’t stop from watching it! Believe me (and my sister! ๐Ÿ˜€ ), I have experienced it! It’s really fun to watch because it’s not really scary, it also has some sense of humor (thanks to Jim!) and it also has a little of bit of suspense and “twist” to it.

*I dare you to watch it. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Great Barrier Reef October 17, 2006

Filed under: Mother Nature — Rachel @ 11:14 am

Here you go guys, I have searched these beautiful pictures of the Great Barrier Reef. I would like to comment on photographs for a change, so that its not always movies, movies and movies (he-he. right? :D) . So, the Great Barrier Reef can be seen in..? You got that right! It can be seen in Australia! (wow! isn’t that fantastic?! :P)

I picked these pictures because, it shows serenity, it’s peaceful, it’s pleasing to the eyes, and it’s just simply beautiful to look at! (agree?).

I really love the sea because there so many things in it, known and unknown. From the shore to the deep abyss in the ocean, from the crabs crawling on the shore to the different kinds of fishes swimming in the sea and to the mysterious species in the deepest abyss in the ocean. Coral reefs are a gift from God. Yes, a gift. What do we do when we receive a gift? we take care of it, we love it, we stop anything or anyone that would try and harm our gifts, but what do we, people do to the coral reefs, OUR coral reefs? Most of the people destroy them! How? by doing dynamite fishing, and other certain things that would harm it.

It’s really painful and sad to accept the reality these days. There are only a few commercials that promote care for Mother Earth, the coral reef for instance. If you’re an avid listener of the radio station, Magic 89.9 (i’m one! and a friend, too! ;)), it would be familiar to you about the coral reef commercial. The line that struck me in the said commercial was “Because Gray’s Just So Boring” and they were saying “..kyan for blue, amber for brown(?), lavander for violet and the list goes on.” So, please, if you happen to hear or see commercial that promotes goodness for Mother Earth, don’t even pretend you did not hear nor see it, because in the end, who knows?, we might be the ones who’ll suffer from such tragedies.

Beauty and the Geek October 3, 2006

Filed under: Reality show — Rachel @ 12:28 pm

Beauty and the Geek (I know I’ve been saying that for the third time. ha-ha) is “The ultimate social experiment, it begins when seven beauties and seven geeks move into an enormous mansion in Los Angeles”.The director of this very interesting show is Brian Smith, Also, Ashton Kutcher (you’ve seen that, right!) is one of the producers in this show. This show can be seen in ETC every Wednesdays at 9 o’clock in the evening (in short, pm).

I really liked and got “hooked” in this show at the very moment I saw the advertisement in our television. I got interested in this show because it was new for me. I got curious about what the show is all about so, I waited the show to be launched in ETC. I was happy because I had the chance to watch it (and already loved the show after seeing it) out of my curiosity. It was really nice of them (the people who are responsible for making this WONDERFUL, TOUCHING, LOVELY, AMAZING!, WITTY and HUMOROUS show) to give the players a chance to mingle with each other. Each beauties here are partnered with each geeks so that they can learn things something about there partners. Each partners help each other here in this game/show in order to win. In this game, it is not winning that its important (well, not really :D), like the other beauty said, THE SUM OF THE PARTS ARE GREATER THAN THE WHOLE. Also, this show shows each one of the persons talents, they show that each player is unique in anyway and it does not matter if you get intimidated by the looks of others or by the mental capacity of others because none of that really matters, what matters most is by simply being yourself and accepting yourself. And that is why I really, really like this show!

I love beauty and the geek!!! :):):)

Guitar October 1, 2006

Filed under: youtube — Rachel @ 5:57 am

Isn’t it amazing how technology brings us such amazing video clips? Wow! (:O) amaziiing… Anyway, just view this and read my entry. And if you do not want to read my entry, well, it’s okay. ๐Ÿ™‚

Since I am one of the girls who are very interested in YouTube nowadays, I have decided to share this very beautiful and jaw-dropping video clip which my sister recommended for me to see. The boy here is just superb! While playing his guitar, it looks like he does not make any effort at ALL! (it’s just like saying: “Ah… guitar. *then plays*). Canon is very interesting to hear but he made MUCH more interesting(HIS FINGERS ARE JUST SO LIGHTING FAST!). After seeing this video clip, I was speechless. He is so good and very talented. It’s just sad that I (or we) did not see his face. I think he prefers to keep his “anonymity”. Anyway, enough said.

Sit up and enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Guess What?… September 30, 2006

Filed under: Introduction — Rachel @ 8:38 am

Whaaat?…

I’m Baaaaaaaaaack!

Like it or not, my chance of being a media critic is still on going and is not yet over. I had a wonderful time (and will always be) sharing/discussing my opinions in this little media log of mine. I have learned so many things during the past quarter because of this project which is given to us by our dear teacher, Ms. P(laton) :). Hopefully, I would be able to make this one a bit more successful (it’s not as if the last entries in the 1st quarter is that bad? ๐Ÿ˜€ but still…) by making it a bit more formal, but not too formal. Ang my goal here is to have a bit more entries because I just want to! and if you have problem with that… Aww, poor you. (just kidding!)

For this quarter, Second quarter to be more specific, I would like to have a particular theme so that my entries would be related to each other, but I think that I would not be able to “apply” it because I have so many differentย  things that I want to share with you, my co-critics / readers :). I will promise to you, my readers that you will not feel sleepy in each of my entries that I am about to make.

Thank you once again, and have a great time reading my entries. ๐Ÿ™‚

The End August 10, 2006

Filed under: Happy Endings — Rachel @ 12:06 pm

Just like I said in my following entries, life has to end. (blurry!) anyway, life is not the only thing that ends, there are so much more. Like my media log for the first quarter. Do not be sad! here comes the second quarter. And the third and the fourth!

Commenting about the movies, books and television shows were so much fun. Even if I only have 5 entries. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have realized that not all movies, are good and/or a must see. Just like our teacher said (Ms. P ๐Ÿ™‚ ) you should really look into the deeper message of the media/medium. Do not let media fool you. Think! and just like a friend said, DO NOT BE A VICTIM OF THE MEDIA! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rachel @ 11:40 am

Did you know, that this book, The People You Meet in Heaven, was my first ever book that I read? Iโ€™m not really fond of reading because I find it quite boring (sorry to the people who loves/likes to read). I read this because my sister was reading it, and I got curious, so, I ended up reading it.

ย

The book is about Eddie. Eddie is the main character. He is old and works at the carnival. He checks and fixes the rides that he thinks is broken and needs to be fixed. He worked in the carnival for so long that he knows when there is something wrong by just listening to it. He also has a wife, whose name is Margueritte he loved her very, very much. Then one day, just an ordinary day, he noticed, just by listening to it, that there was something wrong in a particular ride. When he found out what it was, he was too late to say the problem to his co-workers.

Enough said.ย  READ the book (to people who have not read it yet), try to find out what happened. I promise you that it will be โ€œworth readingโ€. J

ย

Mitch Albom, the author of the book, did a really good job. In fact, I consider the book a page turner. Once I held the book, I cannot stop reading it. The book has so many lessons to teach us, readers. For example, there should be PEACE all over the world so that no innocent lives would be spared (when there was a war, a girl named Tala got burned and Eddie did not have any chance to save her because it was too late because of the fire).

And lastly, life needs to end, BUT love does not (no contractions! J). Even if Margueritte left Eddie, Eddie never stopped loving her. Until, Eddie met her in heaven, so did he met the other 4 people.

ย

*YOU really need to read this book!*
