Media log, going to end? Oh, how sad. It was a pleasure doing this one of a kind project which we all love to work on to and now, it’s going to end! For once in my life, this is the only project which I really liked and at the same time, I enjoy so much. 😦 Thank you Ms. Platon for giving us the chance to be a critic in our own little way!

I could not believe how time fly so fast!

Media is not really bad at all.  You should be just alert and be media literate for you to not be able to dominated or fooled by media. Media is capable of doing many things, so do not be fooled. Think.

Wow, I made it! WE (juniors) made it! congratulations to us!

I hope that I was able to, somehow, help you, my dear readers in the world of media.

Ciao!

Pride and Prejudice

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rachel @ 12:54 pm

it is from a novel of Jane Austen.

In Georgian England, Mrs. Bennet raises her five daughters – Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia with the purpose of getting married with a rich husband that can support the family. They are not from the upper class, and their house in Hartfordshire will be inherited by a distant cousin if Mr. Bennet dies. When the wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley and his best friend Mr. Darcy arrive in town to spend the summer in a mansion nearby their property, the shy and beautiful Jane falls in love for Mr. Bingley, and Lizzie finds Mr. Darcy a snobbish and proud man, and she swears to loathe him forever. This is the beginning of their wonderful love story. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio deJaneiro,Brazil source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0414387/plotsummary

Finally! I have been waiting for this day to write about this film which I really loved (and still) last summer. Just a little fact, ever since I watched this film, I have been watching it E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y! Three times a day! would you believe that? I think you’re probably thinking I am waay insane, but that’s fine! (see if I care. ha-ha. just kidding).

I loved the film because I learned many new words! I remembered that the second time I was watching it, I got our dictionary and pause it where a word in the line that is in the scene (get it?ha-ha) which I do not understand and I will look it up on the dictionary and search the meaning, and yes, I officially understood what they were saying.

Keira Knigthley did an amazing job portraying as Elizabeth Bennet. She has a strong character here and it is easily expressed in the way she acts. It was not only her, but the entire cast as well.

My favorite is the plot of the story.  Isn’t it romantic when you fall in love with the person whom you find irritating, selfish, trying to be dominant, serious and the like. This is what Elizabeth (Knightly) felt over Mr. Darcy (Mcfadyen). But as time passes, as it usually does, Mr. Darcy is falling in love with Elizabeth very intimately. And there was this one scene that he could not take it (hiding his true feelings) anymore, he told Elizabeth about it. And there, at the end, Elizabeth confesses, too. Now,my heart feels a tinge whenever I watch the film. And until now!

So long now, and I shall watch it again! Hah! Bye! 🙂

Magic 89.9

I must admit, I love this radio station. This is the only radio station where I tune in when getting in our car almost every morning when I go to school and by the time I am being fetched.

I find their shows fun, funny and amusing. Not only because of the shows that I find the station nice, but the DJ’s as well. Every morning, I listen to Mojo, Mo Twister and Andi-9, but since Andi-9 is no longer working there, Maui Taylor took her part. I think that what keeps me “glued” or is keeping me listening to it every morning is that their sense of humor (? Gosh, I don’t really know. It’s hard to explain, please bear with me, though).

Every afternoon, as expected, I tune to their station again and the DJ’s at that time are Joey and Miles. Compared to the 3 DJ’s in the morning, their’s is more “formal”. That is because Mo Twister is a very controversial guy because of his show “forbidden questions” but I do not really get the chance of listening to it because the show starts at 7 am (and I usually go to school at 6 30am). But it’s alright, after all, that is what keeping me tuned in.

Rob Schneider March 14, 2007

Robert Michael Schneider, commonly known as, Rob Schneider. This dude here, is half Filipino! That is because his mother is a Filipina. He is very proud to be a Filipino because there is this film which he gave a man a “bibingka” and the man was like “what’s that?” and not to mention, the film, The Animal, there was this one scene that he was wearing a white “Baguio” shirt with pine trees in it. I am really happy for he is not ashamed to become a Filipino.

Rob Schneider is well-known to the comedy industry, why not? It’s his field after all. I love the way he acts and how he delivers himself in his films. His acting comes naturally and it’s like he does not put any effort. Wow, that is the what I consider a good actor. One more thing I like about him is that, he is not afraid to make a fool out of himself. He really wants the best for his audience- to give us a good laugh. He never fails to make all his audiences laugh so hard.

It is also amusing when Adam Sandler has a film and he is ALWAYS in it! when the both of them put together, the film is a Blast! He is always in the film with Adam Sandler because the two of them are very good pals, in short, they are best friends. A-mazing.

The Beatles March 13, 2007

I am so sure that almost ALL of you knows about this very popular British band! And yes, they are The Beatles! The Beatles consists of John Lennon (vocals and rhythm guitar), Paul McCartney (vocals and bass guitar), George Harrison (lead guitar and vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums and vocals).

The person that’s responsible for letting me know this band is my father and his siblings. He/They really like or love this band, The Beatles. He almost knows all of their songs. I am not much of a fan, but as soon as I heard their music, all I thought was “hmm..not bad!” and yes, I learned to like their songs, as well. The songs The Beatles are very nice that it made me or is making me hum and sing along (IF I know what their singing) with them. They are not just a band, they are more of a legend.

The Beatles is one of a kind as well as their songs. Their songs has meaning and life. It’s really enjoyable to hear. It’s not like any other songs which I get tired of hearing. And I think that they are the only classic [?] band which I very much enjoy to listen to because when I do not like the song or the band, I usually change the track or better yet, turn off the player. The band has a very huge, and I mean HUGE impact to all of the people out their. Agree? Agree. 🙂

Hercules (Walt Disney)

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rachel @ 12:33 am

Hercules, son of the Greek God, Zeus, is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the Underworld, who plans to overthrow Zeus. Hercules is raised on Earth and retains his god-like strength, but when he discovers his immortal heritage Zeus tells him that to return to Mount Olympus he must become a True Hero. Hercules becomes a famous hero with the help of his friend Pegasus and his personal trainer, Phil the satyr. Hercules battles monsters, Hades and the Titans, but it is his self-sacrifice to rescue his love Meg which makes him a True Hero. Written by Kristi Connolly {kristic@nlc.net.au}

For me, this is the best animation film which Walt Disney’s production made. Hercules is my favorite. This animation film was released in the year 1997 and every time I have the chance of watching it, I watch. Even though I have watched it all the time. I never get tired of watching it. Since I know what is going to happen, I still laugh whenever there is a funny scene and I can still be sad sometimes, it’s as if it is my first time to watch that film, but in reality, yes, I have seen it any times.

Like I told you before, my dear readers, I am very fond of History, and this is my favorite. The gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. For the past years, I do not care of the characters. Why should I? I was just a child enjoying Hercules save lives and be funny, etc. But as I have reached my junior year, I was able to learn and to know the different characters conveyed in the movie. It feels good to know what you are watching and apply the lessons what you have learned.

I like all the songs in the film. It has a very good tune that makes you want to sing along. The one line that I remember in this film is “People do crazy things…when they’re inlove.” –awww 🙂

300 by Zack Snyder March 11, 2007

I do not know which category this movie will fall but since it is soo NICE and it REALLY deserves to be here, I shall write about it. 🙂 and since I really, really love History in short, A.P. 🙂

This film is about King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) of Sparta which he gathered 300 of his best soldiers against the 1 Million soldiers of King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) of Persia because he wants to take almost all which his eyes lay upon. He is a self-proclaimed King-God and will try to kill people who will not bow down to him. The war here is called “The Battle of Thermopylae”.

The film is s uhmm.. no words can explain. It’s just so good to watch. When given another chance, I will watch it again. The lighting was perfect! It’s not so light and not so dark, it just fitted the mood of the movie perfectly, with the war going on, violence and so much more. The actors, acted so well! the casting was very good and all of the actors fitted their roles perfectly. The director did a good job! The costume was very realistic! It was surreal. The sound effects were awesome! when all of these put together, it’s equal to a one h*ll of a film. I may seem to be exaggerating, but forgive me, because I really liked it.

This film is action-packed, morbid, heart-racing, astonishing and also funny. King Leonidas here has a big sense of humor. Since I am not a spoiler, go watch and you find out for yourself, why. His strategies are very smart since he is very smart and since he is the King of Sparta.

Okay, I am really over-whelmed by the film and I’m being nonsensical. So, just WATCH THE MOVIE. It is worth it! 🙂

Jesus Walks (Kanye West)

Yo
We at war...
We at war with terrorism, racism
But most of all... we at war with ourselves

(Jesus walks)
God show me the way because the devil's trying to break me down
(Jesus walks with me, with me, with me, with me, with me)

You know what the mid-west is?
Young and Restless
Where restless (niggas) might snatch your necklace
And next these (niggas) might jack your Lexus
Somebody tell these (niggas) who Kanye West is. HUH!

I walk through the valley where the shadow of death is.
Top floor of the view alone will leave you breathless
Try to catch it ... it's kind of hard
Getting choked by detectives yeah yeah now check the method.
They be asking us questions, harass and arrest us
Saying We eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast
Huh? Yall eat pieces of shit what's the basis?
We ain't going no where but got suits and cases.
A trunk full of coke, rental car from Avis.
My momma used to say only Jesus can save us.
Well momma I know I act a fool
But I'll be gone til November. I got packs to move I hope.

Chorus:
(Jesus walks)
God show me the way because the devil's trying to break me down
(Jesus walks with me)
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now.
(Jesus walks)
And I don't think there's nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
(Jesus walks with me)
I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long
(I want Jesus)
God show me the way because the devil's trying to break me down
(Oh please)
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now
And I don't think there's nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long
(I want Jesus)
So long, so long

(Jesus walks with me)

To the hustlers, killers, murderers, drug dealers, even the strippers...
(Jesus walks with them!)
To the victims of welfare feel we living in hell here, hell yea...
(Jesus walks with them!)
Now hear ye hear ye wanna see thee more clearly
I know He hear me when my feet get weary
Cause we're the almost nearly extinct
We rappers is role models we rap we don't think
I ain't here to argue about his facial features
Or here to convert atheist into believers
I'm just trying to say the way school need teachers
The way Kathy Lee needed Regis that's the way I need Jesus
So here go my single dawg radio needs this
They said you can rap anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, videotape
But if I talk bout God my record won't get played
Huh?
Well if this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
Then I hope it take away from my sins
And bring the day that I'm dreamin 'bout
Next time I'm in the club everybody screaming out...

(Jesus walks)
God show me the way because the devil trying to break me down
(Jesus walks with me)
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now.
(Jesus walks)
And I don't think there's nothing I can do to right my wrong
(Jesus walks with me)
I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long
(I want Jesus)

Atlast! A rap song I can consider beautiful. Almost ALL of the rap songs that
I ever heard talks about sex, lies, videotapes and guns, which is true
and just like he said. By far, itis the most meaningful rap song I heard, too.
It is really amazing how he made this song. The song really struck me.

When I first heard about this song, I got goosebumps and made me realize
about what's going on in our world right now. Kanye West talks about the
truth here. What struck me the most were these lines:
"They said you can rap anything except for Jesus" and "..But if I talk
bout God my record won't get played Huh?" It struck me because it is
true. Kanye West is not afraid
of rapping or singing about God. Amazing.

God will never leave us. If we are in times of trouble,
He will be there for us, at our side.
Continue to believe in Him and you'll see.. :)

An Incovenient Truth March 8, 2007

Filed under: Documentary — Rachel @ 12:54 pm

By far, the most terrifying film you will ever see..

( This documentary/film is all about Global Warming and its effects to the world.)

As the tag line goes, it is by far the MOST terrifying film I have ever seen (yeah, scarier than SADAKO! ha-ha-ha). Why is that? Well, it is about us, the animals and our planet, our one and only home we can live in. This film warns us about the effects on global warming. It is frightening because hey, it’s REALITY and it’s becoming true. People should not use products that contain CFC’s.  We are all sure that it is only Earth that we can survive and live in, it is our ONLY home, but what do we do to it? we poison her, throwing garbages to the sea and forests, we cut the trees illegally, we let out very dark smokes from our cars and factories which is like there’s no tomorrow! How much longer until we realize the importance of the earth?..our home.

A few facts that the earth is having a global warming:

  • Mt. Fuji’s ice cap is “bye-bye”. It’s no longer covered in ice cap.
  • Polar Bears are DROWNING because they keep on swimming and swimming for miles in search for ice bergs or just an ice that’s floating for them to rest and yes, they no longer find any.
  • The big and thick polar caps of the Arctic are melting and keeps on falling.

These are just some of the results of having global warming. Do you want these to keep on happening to our world? Of course, NOT.

It is very sad and disappointing on what’s happening on our one and only home(the earth) right now. I hope there won’t come a time ALL of us will regret what we’ve done, after all, WE are the one’s to blame. We don’t know what we got till it’s gone. 🙂

“It is now clear that we face a deepening global climate crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly, and wisely,”- Al Gore (the host in the film, An inconvenient Truth)

Moulin Rouge! March 4, 2007

“No Laws. No Limits. One Rule. Never Fall In Love.”

Moulin Rouge is directed and produced by Baz Luhrmann. The lead characters are Satine (Nicole Kidman) and Christian (Ewan Mcgregor). I am sure almost all of you knows about this. To some those who still not knows about this then …

It’s Paris in 1899. Christian, a young English poet, comes to Paris to persue a pennyless career as a writer. However, he soon meets a group of Bohemians who tell him that he should write a musical show for them to be performed at the Moulin Rouge, the most famous underworld night club in Paris. The night they arrive at the Moulin Rouge, Christian meets Satine, the club’s star and a beautiful courtesan. He falls head-over-heels in love with her and though it takes a bit of convincing, she falls for him as well. Meanwhile, the club’s owner, Harold Zidler(Jim Broadbent), invests in a wealthy Duke (Richard Roxburgh) to help pay for the club, however, the duke will only pay if Satine is his. This crazy love triangle twists and turns. And little does Satine know that she has a deadly secret that could end everything. Written by sweetlilcyclone210

This is the most beautiful musical genre I have ever watched. This is my favorite, as well. The actors, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman did an amazing job in acting and singing. At first, before watching the movie, I was surprised that both of them could sing, and it turned out that they were good at it. They have a really beautiful singing voice that makes you sing or hum with them. The film is very romantic and has a touch of comedy in it, but as the film is ending, tragedy comes along.

The plot was very good and it has its own twist and turns which left me guessing what would be next. The light and colors were amazing and the effects, too.  And not to mention the setting and their costumes! (Oh boy, was I in awe. ) (which the film had an eight nominations in the Oscars and won two of them; art direction and costume designs!)

I am proudly telling you to watch this film for those who has not yet seen Moulin Rouge. 🙂
